Government affirms prolongation of food import ban for 2020

MOSCOW, Jun 26 (PRIME) -- The Russian government has prolonged a ban on food imports from the U.S., Ukraine, and the E.U. countries until December 31, 2020 in retaliation to the Western sanctions, according to the ruling published on Wednesday on the government’s website for disclosure of legal information.

The ruling was issued following the Monday rollover of the food import ban signed by President Vladimir Putin.

In 2014, relations between Russia and the West deteriorated to their worse since the Cold War due to a military conflict in Ukraine. The West has introduced several sets of sanctions against some Russian individuals and companies, the energy and banking sectors since then.

In response, Russia limited food imports from some countries, including the U.S., the E.U., Canada, Australia, Norway, and Ukraine.
